Let’s Keep It Simple — Just Water!
For those times when you need something quick and easy to occupy your kids, grab a paintbrush and a little water. That’s it! These two tools can provide so much creativity—and they’re very satisfying and almost calming to use.
Here are a few ways get started:
Level 1
Go outside and “paint” with water on the sidewalk, driveway, slate walkway or some cardboard —no cleanup needed!
Swipe water across colored construction paper to explore color shades and texture. Wet your hands and make hand prints!
Paint designs on smooth rocks with water—watch them vanish as they dry (and start again!).
Level 2
Color with washable markers, then lightly brush or spray water on top to turn it into a watercolor masterpiece. You could even color with crayons FIRST, then markers, then water for a layered effect!
Use paint sticks, then brush water over the top to blend and smooth the colors.
Color on a coffee filter with washable markers, then dab or spray on water to create a cool, tie-dye effect. Do this one on a covered surface!
Other options: Paint-with-water books, Aqua Mats (like the one we use in the studio - best for toddlers/preschoolers) or a Buddha Board (love these - best for elementary or older).
And don’t forget—you can swap out the brush for other tools like sticks, flowers, sponges, Q-tips, or cotton balls. Enjoy!
